Your attitude determines your altitude

Looking at all the pictures of the dress-up days, parties and general madness on the King Price Facebook page, it’s easy to think that we just fool around all day long. The reality, however, is that each of us here works super hard to reach our shared goal of becoming a leader in the South African insurance industry.

But we also want to see each and every one of our employees realise their full potential, and to achieve their wildest dreams…. Okay, so maybe not their wildest dreams, but at least their biggest dreams regarding their careers.

We do a lot to make sure that every day at King Price is great- from our foosball table, to our funky chill space, to the free popcorn and slush our staff enjoy every Friday…. And while that all sounds like a blast, we also expect our staff to contribute to our culture by bringing their energy, their enthusiasm and their problem-solving best to work each day.

Because even if your office doesn’t give you free soft serve to celebrate Spring. We believe: The power to make any and every job a ‘great job’ depends on just one person…. You.  At King Price, we believe that happy staff= happy clients.

Even if it’s an entry level position, or even if it’s in a field that you perhaps never even considered, every job is an opportunity to learn something new, and to build your skill set. In this inspiring speech by the late, great Steve Jobs, he talks about ‘connecting the dots’, where the ‘dots’ are the events and the steps in your life that bring you a little closer to becoming the person you were meant to be.

You are sitting on a dot right now. How long you sit there before taking a leap to the next dot (whatever that next dot is), is up to you.

At King Price, we believe that the road to success isn’t always a straight one…. But it’s easy enough to follow if you can remember to respect everyone around you, stay true to yourself, work hard for what you want and hold yourself accountable to your goals.

Having SMART goals, also helps you to decide what you want. SMART goals are:

Specific: Say exactly what you want, not just an idea of it. (I.e. ‘I want to lose 5kgs by Christmas’ instead of ‘I want to lose some weight’)

Measurable: Decide how you are going to measure improvement and success (e.g. how many customer compliments you get a month) and use that as a benchmark.

Attainable: Make sure that your goal is possible. If you want to do something new, maybe talk to someone who has done something similar, so you understand what it takes.

Realistic: No one knows you better than you. Decide on a SMART goal that you know you will be able to achieve…. Don’t set yourself up to fail.

Timed: Give yourself a deadline…. It’s the best way to make sure you put in the work and see the results.

If your SMART goal is to work at King Price, then maybe we can help you out with that.

We’re always looking for ambitious, talented team mates to welcome on board. All you have to do is email your CV to [email protected]

Let us know in the subject line what kind of job you are currently doing, or what kind of job you are looking for.

Here’s to having a great day at work…. wherever you work.
