Earn the title of ‘mommy’s favourite’

Anyone who’s had a special occasion happen during the lockdown will know that it’s not completely terrible… It’s just, how shall we put it? Different. It’s different to have a special event, like a birthday or Mother’s Day where all the guests attend via Zoom and there’s a whole cake just for you.

With Mother’s Day around the corner, we thought we’d help you with the gift side of things by jotting down a couple of unique lockdown-appropriate ideas that’ll have you crowned ‘mommy’s favourite’ in the house. We even rated them according to the amount of effort required.

Here are some lockdown gift ideas for Mother’s Day:

A sit-down breakfast: Effort level 7/10

Pull out all the stops and treat momma bear to her favourite breakfast, like fluffy pancakes with fresh fruits, nuts, yoghurt, and honey. Or a pile of bacon. You could even dolly up the table or tray with flowers and crank up her favourite tunes for ambience.

Oh, and don’t forget to clean up afterwards. Seriously, it’s Mother’s Day. She shouldn’t have to do dishes.

DIY face mask: Effort level 5/10

Find an empty jam jar or something similar and fill it with a plain yoghurt and honey mix. There are heaps of DIY ideas on the world of Google, so find a site that you trust and make a concoction using ingredients you have access to. Make it even more special by putting a bow on the jar. Remember, it’s the little touches that bring the title of favourite closer to being yours.

Domestic coupons: Effort level 10/10

You know all the laundry, washing up, sweeping, mopping, and general tidying that mother dearest seems to organise and get done? Well, you can create a series of domestic coupons to help her out. Whip out the crayons and glitter and pretty up some scrap pieces of paper. (This isn’t where you should apply the effort. That comes later.)

Tip: You can either give her a few hourly weighted cleaning coupons to be used for whatever duties she wants done or you can give her a collection of individual coupons, like 1 x ironing coupon, 1 x wash all the towels and linens coupon, dishes for a week coupon, 1 x sweeping all the floors coupon, 1 x cleaning the bathrooms, etc.

DIY sugar body scrub: Effort level 4/10

This is another 1 of those little spoils that comes straight from the heart and because you’re using natural ingredients, it’s so good for your mom’s skin. The 2 base ingredients are sugar and coconut oil, once you’ve got those, you can chuck in coffee grinds or peppermint oil or whatever you have on hand or Google suggests. Again, mix it together and throw it in a glass jar and tie it up with a ribbon to make it pretty.

Slouchy winter pyjamas: Effort level 3/10

Winter gear is available to be bought at this stage of lockdown, so get you to the nearest shop and buy your mother some comfy, slouchy pyjamas that she can wear around the house and still feel like a toasty warm queen.

Get your own car insurance: 1/10

Nothing makes a mom prouder than when you’ve done something responsible for yourself. Like when you tell her that you’re exercising more, drinking less, paying your bills, or getting quality car insurance from the king.

These are things that she loves to hear and instantly makes you her favourite child. The 1 she doesn’t have to worry about as much. And because you’re getting car insurance from the king, you both save. She saves by buying less ridiculously expensive creams for those pesky worry lines that she develops from stressing about whether you and your car are safer. You save because of our decreasing premiums (check it out here).

Also, our royal cover for your car is super easy to get. You can get a quick quote here where you’ll just have to fill in your details and let us call you back. Easy-peasy.
