Liability car insurance 101

Wondering what liability car insurance is? It’s actually a really good question. And not at all boring. Which, as we write, sounds somewhat sarcastic, but rest assured that we couldn’t be more serious.

As a person who drives on our country’s often dangerous roads, doing what you can to ensure that you understand your liability, is a really smart thing to do. It’s even smarter to make sure that you have car insurance that includes liability cover.

So, let’s kick off with the basics of what liability car insurance is (starting with what it’s usually called) and go through a few of the more pressing details to help you gain a clearer picture of what this cover is and how it helps you.

Firstly, what do we mean by liability

Quite literally, the word ‘liability’ is defined as being in a state where you’re the 1 who’s legally responsible for something.

Generally speaking, if you’re involved in an incident that results in damage to someone else’s property, and it’s found that you’re responsible, then you could be held liable for the costs related to those damages.

As in, by law, you’re the 1 who has to foot the bill. Not a fun thought.

What exactly is liability car insurance

The long and the short of it is that liability cover for your car typically insures you against the financial costs associated with being held legally responsible for a car accident that causes damage to someone else’s property.

As a King Price client, we’ll cover the costs for the third party’s damages and losses, as well as the legal costs that the third party may recover from you. We’ve even extended this cover to people in your household who are financially dependent on you and your children who are full-time students, whether they live with you or not.

What was that about calling it another name

Alright, so the first thing to know is that this type of cover isn’t usually referred to as liability car insurance. If you’re looking for this kind of cover, you’ll have better luck asking for car insurance that includes cover for third party liability.

The most obvious policies are third party only car insurance or third party, fire & theft car insurance. But wait for this piece of good news… The king’s royally amazing car insurance policies include liability cover.

Just so you know, we think it’s completely understandable why you’d want to ask for ‘liability car insurance.’ After all, what you’re after is cover against the cost of being held legally responsible for damage caused to another person’s property as a result of an incident involving your car.

And that’s pretty much ‘liability car insurance,’ wouldn’t you say?

The king’s got your back

Because we have your best interests at heart, we’ve included third party liability cover with all our car insurance policies. Call us sentimental, but we want to do everything we can to protect you against the astronomical costs that can come your way if something happens while you’re behind the wheel.

Here’s what’s covered by the king:

  • You’re covered against financial liabilities after you cause a car accident that results in loss or damage to someone else’s property.
  • The legal costs that someone else may recover from you.

This is super important. You need to know what’s NOT covered by the king:

  • Liability:
  • For death, bodily injury or emotional shock.
  • Arising from loss or damage to your property or your car.
  • If your claim for the car accident relating to the liability is rejected.
  • That’s already covered by legislation or other insurance contracts, like any compulsory car insurance act, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Compensation for Occupational Injury and Diseases Act, or any other insurance contract.

It’s worth saying that while we’ve done our best to give you a good idea of what the king can do to protect you from what could turn out to be really expensive liability costs, you can also find all the juicy details of our liability cover here.

Motor liability insurance, liability car insurance, or third party liability cover… Whatever you call it, the king covers it!
